The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The anticipation around The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
