Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure commented the attack rendered him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
